Writing Letters to People and Burning Them

A blog post by Albert Semple

Today's poem, inspired by a joke I saw on a Mastodon post, is about a client's incorrect interpretation of some advice from their therapist. I'm pleased with the sudden, dark twist at the end.

My therapist told me for difficult folk,
To write them all letters, and then, up in smoke,
You set them on fire and watch them all burn.
You'll find that your grievances never return.
So with those instructions I sat down to write
Then as she suggested, I set them alight.
Some people died screaming, some died in their sleep.
I've still got those letters stacked up in a heap.
